How to Join Troop 1
There are two ways to join Troop 1, as a Webelos crossover from your Cub Scout pack or as a “Walk-on”.
Webelos: Webelos/Arrow of Light Scouts are the most senior Cub Scouts that are moving up to Troop. All AOL candidates and their parents will attend a mandatory orientation meeting and will work on transferring BSA membership to the Troop. Placement of Webelo Scouts in “New Scout” Patrols or existing Patrols is at the discretion of the Scoutmaster. Last year, over 10 candidates from our own Cub Scout Pack 1 “crossed over” to the Troop.
“Walk-On”: A “Walk On”, a scout who is interested in joining BSA Scouts without a Cub Scout Pack relationship, must meet with the Membership Chair along with their parents before acceptance of the registration form you will submit below.
How Much Does Scouting Cost?
Troop 1 prides itself in making the experience of Scouting attainable for every family. Through our Troop’s fundraising activities, Troop 1 is able to subsidize the basic dues and administrative costs for your Scout entirely. There are still some costs that you should expect, however:
Purchasing a Scout uniform (about $100), though we usually have a closet of outgrown uniforms that we can pass along
Outfitting your Scout with camping gear (about $300-500), though our Quartermaster can initially provide temporary loaners
$35 fee for our monthly camping trips, pays for food and transportation
If you wish to send your Scout to summer camp for a week, that typically runs around $500. Attendance is entirely optional (though really fun!)
To aid you in the process of gearing up your Scout, we have created a guide, which you can access here.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
As of 2017, Scouting USA (formerly Boy Scouts of America) began accepting young women into our organization. Why? The short answer is because parents asked us to. The more complete answer can be found here. The Girl Scouts of America is a separate organization, is alive and well, and provides a girls-only experience.
-
Scouting is intended for young men and women from ages 13-18. If his or her intent is to become an Eagle Scout, that process will take a minimum of 2 years. However older kids can still benefit from what Scouting has to offer.
-
Not necessarily. We think that every child should have the chance to enjoy the benefits of Scouting. To help out Scouts who are just starting out, we have a small reserve of donated gear that we can temporarily lend out until you are able to put together the proper equipment over time. Ask the Troop Quartermaster for details.
